I have been a staunch defender of SEC football, perhaps to a fault. Those of us who have believed the SEC is the best conference in the game sometimes act like snobs.
Harrumph. Empty seats at a conference game? My goodness, man, how dare thee?
And you will never need to convince me that when it comes to passion, tradition and butts in the seats the SEC is No. 1.

OK, so the first BCS rankings are out and there is good news and bad news for the SEC. The good news is that Alabama is second. The bad news is that Florida is 10th.

It’s on now.
The race for Atlanta has started to take shape and with five SEC games on Saturday it will continue to be molded.
But here is what we know.
1.
The East is really interesting, and Florida-Georgia could still be the
game we thought it would be. Vanderbilt’s loss (I wanted so badly to
pick Mississippi State but blew it) sidetracks the Cinderella story
unless the Commodores win in Athens this week.

I often write about how weird things are in college football because, well, it’s weird. Like this weird ” Vanderbilt is the best team in Tennessee and it’s not even close.
The
Commodores recorded a win for the ages on Saturday night. It’s not that
Auburn is anything special, but for Vanderbilt to overcome the hype
machine of ESPN and rally to win was enormous for the program. Now
