Covering Florida athletics is starting to feel like the Twilight Zone. Actually, it has felt that way for some time now.
I keep waiting to hear the music and see Jeremy Foley standing in my doorway saying, “Submitted for your approval, a man caught in a never-ending trip, packing and unpacking but never staying long. What he’s about to find out is that he can’t escape … The Twilight Zone.”

ATLANTA ” Outside Alexander Memorial Coliseum, hundreds of Kentucky fans found out that the SEC Tournament was over before it started for them.
Because of the tornado that forced Georgia Dome officials to declare their facility unplayable, the games were moved to the 9,000-seat Georgia Tech facility. Georgia and Kentucky played at noon with the semifinal games to follow at 6 p.m. and 30 minutes after the end of the first semifinal game.

It was both surreal and scary. So many things flashed through my mind during what seemed like a 10-minute rumbling (it was probably more like 30 seconds).
When the sound first began, I wondered what the heck it was. It sounded like a giant helicopter was getting ready to land on the roof of the Georgia Dome. I figured it must be an airplane flying low. I mean, what could it be?

The Georgia Dome finally has a little volume to it. After a fairly quiet Thursday in the stands, the Tennessee fans are in full throat. And any questions we had about the Vols, who have smelled up this tournament the last 10 years, are being answered. Tennessee scores the first nine points of the game.

Thursday’s second game is expected to be the one with the least amount of intrigue and it’s living up to the pre-game expectations. Undersized Auburn has no answer for Vandy’s 6-foot-11 A.J. Ogilvy. He scores eight of the Commodores’ first 11 points.
Auburn’s only hope is to make a bunch of 3s. But even though Vanderbilt hits its first eight shots, the Tigers are still in it with eight minutes left in the half.

We’re finally seeing some basketball here in the Georgia Dome with LSU and South Carolina opening up the SEC Tournament. The energy in the building is overwhelming. Not.
Unless one of the two bands is playing you can hear crickets chirping. Seriously, everything Dave Odom is saying to his team while the ball is in play can be heard by anybody in the arena. The two teams can’t have a combined 100 fans here.

The SEC Tournament begins Thursday in the Georgia Dome where ” in
theory anyway ” all 12 teams have a chance to win the whole thing and
earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
For some, the chances of
hoisting the trophy are better than for others. Eight of the teams
would have to win four games in four days. That hasn’t happened since
