Richt sends apology letter

by admin

Georgia coach Mark Richt sent a letter to the Southeastern Conference apologizing for the actions of his team Saturday following the Bulldogs’ first touchdown against Florida in a 42-30 win Saturday. SEC commissioner Mike Slive has accepted Richt’s apology and considers the matter closed, according to SEC associate commissioner Charles Bloom. Following Knowshon Moreno’s touchdown in the first quarter, the entire Georgia team rushed the field causing the officials to call two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Richt said later … Read More »

Inside the SEC: Wild weekend

by admin

Just when you thought the SEC couldn’t get any crazier, ladies and gentlemen, I give you Oct. 27. On Saturday, a Georgia team that was smashed by Tennessee beat a Florida team that hammered Tennessee. Don’t throw comparative scores around because they make no sense. And two weeks after beating LSU and a week after a thriller against Florida, Kentucky loses to Mississippi State. A week ago, I was ready to put Andre’ Woodson on my … Read More »

A good read

by admin

On the trip to and from Kentucky I was able to read Stewart Mandel’s book “Bowls, Polls and Tattered Souls.” If you are a college football fan, it should be your bible. If not, you probably shouldn’t be reading me anyway. While part of my joy in reading this book was that Stewart ” who writes for Sports Illustrated ” and I think a lot alike when it comes to college football, it … Read More »

The big game in Kentucky

by admin

LEXINGTON. Ky. ” I’ve figured it out. Kentucky is neither a basketball school or a football school. It’s a Cornhole school. Cornhole is the name of the game that has taken this area by storm. For those of you who have never seen or heard of it, Cornhole or Corn Toss is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes. It migrated to Lexington from nearby Cincinnati and … Read More »

Inside the SEC: Deep thoughts

by admin

Another ho-hum Saturday in the SEC. Right. What a great Saturday to have the day off and lounge around with the family watching amazing games. It sets up a gigantic weekend in the conference. 10 things I think I thought deep into the night: 1. LSU’s lack of a passing game finally caught up with the Tigers in Lexington. Four straight runs in triple overtime with the game on the line? LSU did run for 261 yards, but only had 142 throwing against a mediocre … Read More »

Don’t be upset, be surprised

by admin

I agree with my friend Stewart Mandel of SI.com, who wrote this week that maybe we should stop using the word “upset” so much in college football. Look, there are big upsets like Appalachian State over Michigan, but USF over West Virginia and Auburn over Florida are just part of the landscape that we have come to expect. Just because oddsmakers ” whose jobs are not to pick who will win but where the most money will be bet … Read More »
